The City of Kingston Department of Public Works is headed by the Superintendent of Public Works, who oversees a workforce of approximately 71 persons. The Department is divided into nine primary divisions.
- Public Works Administration ensures the safe and smooth operation of its various divisions. It plans, budgets and coordinates projects with other City Departments and sections. All excavation permits, sidewalk permits, curb cut permits and work orders are issued through this division.
- Safety Division is responsible for developing safety and health programs. It provides training of all programs to ensure all City employees have the skills and information to successfully protect themselves and the general public.
- Street Division is responsible for traffic control, street paving and repair, painting, striping, signage along with sidewalk and curb installation.
- Sewer Maintenance Division ensures sewer mains remain is proper working order through our preventive maintenance program. This consists of routine cleaning of all public sewer main in which an obstruction may occur. They are responsible for installation and repair of all manholes, catch basins and sewer mains.
- Sanitation Division encompasses City of Kingston solid waste and recycling collection services. It plans, implements, coordinates and directs programs for the collection of trash and recycling material in compliance with all regulations.
- Waste Water Treatment Division is in operation to protect public health and to ensure minimal impact on aquatic environment through collection and treatment of waste water within our regional area. The facility crew operates and maintains the collection and treatment systems.
- Fleet Maintenance Division maintains, repairs and services all vehicles and equipment owned and operated by the City of Kingston.
