City of Kingston and Climate Smart Kingston Commission Partner with GreenSheen Paint for 2nd Annual Free Paint Recycling Event May 16, 2026
KINGSTON, NY – Mayor Steven T. Noble is pleased to announce that the City of Kingston and the Climate Smart Kingston Commission will host a Free Paint Recycling Event on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
Mayor Noble said, “Building on the massive success of last year’s inaugural event, we are pleased to host another free paint recycling event. This is a rare opportunity to properly dispose of latex and oil-based paint. I encourage anyone interested to register early, as time slots are expected to fill quickly given last year’s high demand.”
The Free Paint Recycling Event will be held at Kingston Plaza from 9:00am to 1:00pm. Acceptable materials include house paint, stains, deck coatings, primers, and sealers. No aerosols or solvents will be accepted.
At the 2025 event, 480 residents participated, successfully diverting over 60,000 pounds of paint from local landfills. By partnering with GreenSheen Paint, the city is ensuring that these materials are not simply disposed of, but are processed into new, eco-friendly paint products at GreenSheen’s New York manufacturing facility in Rotterdam.
“Kingston continues to lead the way in New York’s circular economy,” said Kirby Boynton, Events Director for GreenSheen Paint. “After seeing the incredible commitment from this community last year, we are excited to return. Our goal for 2026 is even more ambitious—we want to serve over 500 households and ensure that every usable gallon of paint in Kingston is given a second life rather than ending up in a landfill.”
