The function of the Municipal Civil Service Commission is to provide an orderly and uniform system for the administration of civil service in the City of Kingston, on the basis of merit and fitness as provided in the Civil Service Law of the State of New York.  These rules have the force and effect of law and apply to all positions in the classified service of the City of Kingston, the Kingston City School District, the Kingston Housing Authority and the Kingston Library.

As part of its services, the City of Kingston Civil Service Commission provides the following:

• Determines position titles and develops job descriptions.

• Administers examinations for competitive titles and establishes lists of qualified candidates.

• Interprets Civil Service Law and Rules covering appointment, promotion, discipline and discharge.

Entry Level Police Officer Examination now being offered two times a year.  Spring and Fall 

CONTINUOUS RECRUITMENT EXAMINATIONS: The following examinations will be given on a continuous recruitment basis.  Please click on the title below to view the examination announcement.  Exams will be given every six months and names will be interfiled on the eligible lists.  Candidates will remain on the list for one year.  Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis for these titles only.  Any applications received after the filing deadline on the current announcements will be scheduled for the following exams 6 months later.

 We accept applications for Police Officer throughout the year.  Applicants are scheduled for the written based on when they apply for the exam.  Physical Agility exams are also offered in the spring and fall.
